Calculator.
One of my more prominent memories of elementary school is when I was in the 3rd grade. Me and my teacher had gotten into an argument about why I needed to know how to divide. You see, she wanted us to become proficient and quick in that area of mathematics (as any good teacher would want). I had earnestly asked her why I would need to practice something that a calculator could do in a matter of...

Spoonfuls of sugar are generally frowned upon. Unless, of course, they are taken with medicine. Somehow that makes it okay.

Priorities.
Stay at work and please the boss, or make it home safe without getting stranded on the snow somewhere. Hm.

Weather like this is where the “I can always put more clothes on” theory falls apart. Unless you wanna like like the Michelin tire man.

Last Night I Had a Dream.
I was holding a girl as close as I could. It wasn’t anyone I know. But she was my best friend. My partner in life. I was protecting her. I was comforting her. It was only for a moment, but I remember wishing the moment would last much longer. I forget most of my dreams by the time I’m out of the shower, but this one has stuck with me all day. I don’t know why, but it’s...

Hi, I'm Dan, and I work retail.
3:30 wake-up call today. I’m desperately clutching this mug, hoping the coffee inside will save me from the insanity today will bring. It’s national consumerism day, and I’m awake against my will. Hibernation is not an option. Not this year. Instead I must face the throngs of rabid crowds with nothing but Red Bull running through their veins. Without a sidearm. Its Black Friday.

Anonymous asked: Your "Maybe One Day" picture completely applies to me also! Sometimes it's really depressing seeing all these happy people around me and feeling so lonely here by myself. But I feel like every day that I spend watching other people enjoy themselves now will make that one day for me so much better. I can't wait to see the man that He has picked out for me:)

A Passing Glance
A sigh, a shrug, A beautiful smile. A heart, A hurt, Mile after mile. A hope, a hold, A fearful apathy. A calm, a cold, To light the city. A flame, a flower From me to her. A passing glance From her to me.

Morning Showers.
I don’t understand people that shower at night. If I ever shower right before bed, I get all hot and sticky. I just lay there for hours, hoping that somehow I’ll magically cool off. Most of the time I’m too tired to actually get up and do anything about it. So I avoid night showers whenever possible. I need a half-hour-power-shower shower every morning. It’s the one thing...

I’ve been up and down California’s coast line this past week, and there are couples everywhere. I know God’s got the perfect girl for me, but it sometimes gets so hard to wait.

Life Today, Life Tomorrow.
Life will never be the same as it is now. Whether we’re moving forward or not, life keeps going. People will be moving around us, with us, or past us. About a month ago me and a few friends were trying to plan a camping trip. We had gone on one the year before and we all agreed it was a great experience; one of the highlights of our lives. It was something we would reminisce about when we...

Wings.
Why is the eagle the only winged animal people use metaphorically in music? Just once, I’d like to hear a song that uses a different animal. “I’ll grow wings and fly like a wasp in the sky.”

I’ve been really into kinetic typography lately, and I wanted to try my hand at it. So here’s my first shot. It’s only 20 seconds or so, but I wasn’t intending to go through the whole song. I just wanted to get the basics or Kinetic Typography down. Let me know what you think!

Middle Names.
Why do people get so defensive when I ask what their middle name is? They either freak out and call me a creeper (which I don’t understand at all) or they say “guess” with a stupid grin on their face. If I wanted to guess, I would have walked up to you and just started shouting random names. I don’t want to guess. I just want to know. If people protected their social...

Occupied.
Today I was in the men’s room at work taking care of my business. About halfway through my visit this guy comes up and starts banging on the door. He yelled “hello!?” and yanked the handle so hard I thought he was going to break it off. The door was looked. The restroom was obviously in use, but he kept banging and yelling. I yelled out an “occupied,” but that...

Dear You Two and Dear You, Too.
Dear you. You are perfect for each other, but you’re just letting it fade away and die. Why? And you. You’re with someone that treats you like crap, but you fight for the relationship with everything in you. Why? You’re better than that.

Clothes.
If you tell someone you spend a lot of money on clothes, they will probably think of you as a shallow person. If you say to that same person “I take pride in the way I dress,” they will most likely respect you more.

A Slow and Silent Tragedy
The young tree is leaning. Things seemed just fine yesterday. Now it’s creaking under the pressure as the wind shoves it back and forth and the weight of all you’ve taken on yourself drives you to the ground. Do you remember how tall you used to stand? Watching you fall down like this is breaking my heart.
